Regulatory Obligations: Computer forensics plays a vital part in corporate compliance with regards to federal legislation. “Sarbanes-Oxley”. Section 802 forbids the intentional destruction, altering or falsification of financial or related operational records. Computer forensics is the only acceptable way to determine if such digital financial records have been deleted or altered. Computer forensics enhances the accuracy of financial reporting; supporting Section 404 of “Sarbanes-Oxley”.
Gramm-Leach Bliley (GLB) applies to financial organizations or any organization that collects or transfers private financial information of its customers. GLB applies to the collection and dissemination of customers’ information and the controls within an organization that protect customers’ financial data.
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act “HIPA”
This legislation directs health care providers to protect the privacy and security of their patients’ medical records.
These acts make it imperative that companies and health care providers which collect financial data or medical records, as part of their operations, have their networks secure from attack. Additionally, Computer Forensics is the only way to assess the scope of a network breach and determine the source of the breach.
